Time is too precious to be anything less than intentional

Meet Nana. She is my “why” for this project. She will be 90 years old this year and came to live with us in 2016.

Nana is the matriarch, a retired peanut farmer from South Texas with seven children and currently over 30 great-grandchildren bumping around (the one pictured is my youngest daughter). Living with her and designing our home to make it work has been one of the most beautiful and meaningful experiences I’ve ever had the honor to participate in. I’m not here to convert people to multigenerational living; but I do want to serve people just like me who have ever felt suspended between themselves and the people they love, never enough time, never enough attention to go around.

About Me

Welcome!I am a Mom, a Daughter, a Grand-daughter, and a few other things that are seemingly relevant to expecting aging parents.

I am a physician

I am a Rehabilitation Medicine doctor, which means I am at the intersection where people are going home with family after a catastrophic injury or illness (such as a stroke or car accident). I have met thousands of families along the way and learned what does (and does not) work when families are trying to support each other after a setback. I’ve been squarely in the middle of family drama and I’ve been taking notes, now sharing them with you.

I am a design consultant

When we had the chance to custom design our current home back in 2015, I became obsessed with how home design could support families and generations who are merging. I began to study the science, and merged that with my professional experience of caring for people with a wide array of disabilities. I’ve been consulting on design projects for the last three years, helping families get the space configuration optimized for living together in peace while preserving function and privacy.
